The Philippines, an archipelago in Southeast Asia, is not known for being a country of vegetarians,
with only a few young celebrities adopting a meat-free diet in this land of omnivores.
So we reasonably had a big and pleasant surprise when we found that Boracay, the world-famous resort
island in central Philippines, could be a vegetarian destination.
We flew to Boracay from the capital city, Metro Manila, packing our bags with peanuts,
tofu chips, dried apples and bananas, green tea, and vegan chocolate-chip cookies, half-expecting
to eat very little during our eight-day visit.
