(Edmonton, Canada and Jakarta, Indonesia)
by Heidi P. Cruz, VegDining.com
Padmanadi Vegetarian Restaurant in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada actually had its colorful beginnings halfway across the globe, in Jakarta, Indonesia, where the first
(and biggest) branch of the restaurant chain opened in 1984.
Padmanadi's founder, Mr. Kasim, was born in Medan (Sumatra Island) to a Buddhist family and grew up vegetarian.
He learned the ropes in food service at an early age, often serving food prepared by his mother in a Buddhist temple.
