"Great Indian vegetarian food at a restaurant run by Hare Krishna's. They also have a small shop on site. No alcohol and no smoking allowed. Lunch specials are set meals (thali-style) priced at 1,200 Tenge (about US$8) for pouri, two vegetables (one with paneer) and rice as well as dhal and a lemon drink. There is also a smaller set meal for 500 Tenge. Very reasonable and tasty in this expensive city! The food is very fresh and flavorful but not spicy. "Though a small community in Almaty indeed, the Hare Krishnus there provide for an awesome experience which tickles the nose, eyes, and tongue. After entering and seeing the gift shop of trinkets, teas, and incenses, one enters into their beautifully decorated dining rooms. The menu is of average size and the prices are just right for the most expensive city in Kazakhstan. With many traditional Indian and adapted Central Asian dishes, this place is sure to never disappoint even the most fastidious palate."
